Basic Level of O.G. Provides:
-
assessment of language deficits, speech, and motor patterns
-
pre-reading exercises that work to:
– develop short term memory
-develop sound sequencing capability central to all language – related skills
-develop auditory discrimination between sounds in words
-develop auditory recognition of terminal sounds in words
-
And also provides:
-sequencing tasks such as: alphabetic code, days of the week, months, seasons
-speech exercises that teach the origin of sounds difficult to say or hear.
-exercises to eliminate confusion between right and left
-fine and gross motor skills development through handwriting exercises when needed.

Decoding and encoding exercises provide:
-integration of sound, symbol, and motor patterns while learning the phonetic system of English.
-mastery of the six types of syllable division and use of common suffixes
-all spelling rules and generalizations
-grammatical structure and syntax of English in sentence writing

Oral reading 15 – 20 minutes per session, first using phonetically controlled text, then whole language books when 85% of text can be accurately decoded. (guessing, word substitution, and other compensatory strategies not permitted)
Advanced O.G. Level
-
Presents multi-syllabic words in a carefully constructed sequence of language origin. A systematic study of Anglo-Saxon, French, Latin, and Greek affixes and roots, along with accenting patterns; extends decoding and encoding work crucial to mastery of middle-school, high-school, and college-level content area.

Incorporates work on higher-order comprehension skills, grammar, writing proficiency, vocabulary improvement, and copying skills.
